Amazon was founded by Jeff Bezos on July 5, 1994, originally under the name 'Cadabra, Inc.' Bezos was working as a senior vice president at D.E. Bezos decided on books as the first product category because of the vast catalog available and low cost per unit. He quit his job at D.E.
