Company Overview

About HP Inc.

HP Inc. is a global technology company specializing in personal computers, printers, and related products, headquartered in Palo Alto, California. HP Inc. was created in November 2015 when Hewlett-Packard Company completed a separation into two independent publicly traded companies: HP Inc. (personal systems and printing) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (enterprise IT infrastructure and services). HP Inc. reported revenues of $53.6B in fiscal year 2024 (ending October 2024), with approximately 58,000 employees worldwide.

Business Model & Competitive Advantage

HP Inc.'s business is divided into two segments: Personal Systems (~70% of revenue) and Printing (~30%). The Personal Systems division sells PCs, laptops, workstations, and thin clients under the HP and Omen brands to consumers, SMBs, and enterprises. HP is the #2 PC manufacturer globally by market share (approximately 23%), trailing Lenovo. The Printing segment — one of HP's most profitable divisions — sells printers (LaserJet, OfficeJet, DeskJet) and the highly recurring consumables (ink and toner cartridges) that generate most of the segment's margins. HP commands approximately 40% of the global printer market share.

Competitive Landscape 2025–2026

HP Inc. trades on NYSE under ticker HPQ with a market cap of approximately $35B. The company has pursued aggressive cost reductions and share buybacks under CEO Enrique Lores. A key strategic initiative is HP's AI PC push: HP is embedding AI processing capabilities (NPUs) into its PC lineup to capture the enterprise upgrade cycle anticipated as Microsoft's AI-enhanced Windows features drive replacements of aging hardware. Printing faces long-term structural headwinds as offices use less paper, which HP is offsetting through managed print services and 3D printing expansion.
