Company Overview
About Retym
Retym is a semiconductor startup founded to develop programmable coherent digital signal processing (DSP) chips designed specifically for AI infrastructure and cloud data center connectivity. The company emerged from stealth in March 2025 with $180M in total funding, anchored by a $75M Series D led by Spark Capital with participation from Kleiner Perkins, Mayfield, and Fidelity Investments. Retym''s chips are manufactured by TSMC using its 5nm process node and were in testing and validation at the time of the stealth exit.
Business Model & Competitive Advantage
Coherent DSP is a foundational technology for high-speed optical data transmission inside and between AI data centers. As AI model training and inference workloads scale to tens of thousands of GPUs, the bandwidth and power efficiency of interconnects become critical bottlenecks. Retym''s programmable approach allows its chips to be adapted across different data center configurations and optical network architectures, contrasting with fixed-function alternatives. The company plans to bring its first chips to market by the end of 2025.
Competitive Landscape 2025–2026
Retym competes in a market that includes Marvell Technology, Coherent Corp., and Acacia Communications (acquired by Cisco), as well as emerging startups in AI networking silicon. Its programmability angle addresses a gap in the market where customers need flexibility to evolve their optical interconnect strategies as AI infrastructure scales.
