About League One Volleyball
League One Volleyball (LOVB) is an American professional volleyball organization founded in 2021 by Katlyn Gao and headquartered in Austin, Texas. LOVB operates both a top-tier professional league and a national youth club volleyball ecosystem, with the dual mission of creating a sustainable career pathway for female volleyball players while expanding access and opportunity for young girls in the sport across the United States. The professional league launched its inaugural season in January 2024, featuring six teams playing in arenas across Atlanta, Houston, Madison, Minneapolis, Omaha, and Salt Lake City.
Business Model & Competitive Advantage
LOVB raised over $100M in funding from investors including SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and others, making it one of the most well-capitalized professional women''s sports league launches in US history. The organization''s integrated model — connecting grassroots youth club programs to professional play — gives LOVB a built-in pipeline of athletes, coaches, and families that generates community engagement and media interest beyond what a standalone professional league would achieve. LOVB''s professional players serve as aspirational figures for the youth athletes in LOVB club programs, creating a virtuous cycle of athlete development and fan development simultaneously.
Competitive Landscape 2025–2026
LOVB competes for women''s volleyball media rights and fan attention alongside the National Volleyball Association (NVA) and international club structures, while partnering with USA Volleyball to align with the national federation. The league broadcasts on CBS Sports, Paramount+, and streaming platforms, aiming to grow volleyball into a mainstream US professional sport alongside the broader wave of women''s professional sports investment in the 2020s. LOVB''s club network spans hundreds of locations nationwide, giving it both a recurring revenue base and a grassroots marketing engine.
