Steel Dynamics, Inc. is one of the largest steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, manufacturing steel using electric arc furnace (EAF) mini-mill technology that melts recycled scrap metal rather than virgin iron ore. Founded in 1993 by Keith Busse and a team of former Nucor executives, Steel Dynamics has grown from a single mini-mill in Butler, Indiana to a national steelmaker with 12 steel mills, 9 steel fabrication operations, and extensive metals recycling operations.
