Company Overview
About Harness
Harness is a software delivery and DevOps platform that uses AI to make CI/CD pipelines faster, more reliable, and easier to manage at enterprise scale. Founded in 2016 by Jyoti Bansal (also the founder of AppDynamics), Harness was built on the insight that software delivery had become increasingly complex—with multi-cloud environments, microservices deployments, and growing compliance requirements—but that AI could automate much of the operational toil that DevOps teams deal with daily.
Business Model & Competitive Advantage
The platform's AI-native approach differentiates it significantly from older CI/CD tools. Harness AI analyzes test results and code changes to select only the tests likely to be affected, dramatically reducing test suite execution times. Its continuous delivery module provides pipeline-as-code with automatic rollback triggers, deployment verification using ML to detect anomalies in business metrics and infrastructure health, and feature flag management for safe progressive rollouts. The platform also includes FinOps capabilities for cloud cost optimization and governance tooling for deployment compliance.
Competitive Landscape 2025–2026
Harness has raised over $425M and achieved unicorn status, competing against Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab, and GitHub Actions. The company's enterprise positioning targets large organizations with complex multi-cloud delivery pipelines where intelligent automation provides compounding efficiency gains. Harness's acquisition of Drone.io and investment in open-source tooling has expanded its ecosystem reach while its enterprise sales motion has established it among the Fortune 500 companies managing the most complex software delivery operations.
