Company Overview
About Exeger
Exeger is a Swedish deep-technology company founded in 2009 by Giovanni Fili and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden. The company has developed Powerfoyle — a proprietary photovoltaic solar cell based on advanced dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) technology — which offers unique properties not possible with conventional silicon solar cells: it is fully customizable in shape, color, pattern, and texture, and performs effectively under both indoor and outdoor light conditions. Powerfoyle cells exhibit 1,000 times better conductivity than standard DSSCs, enabling them to generate sufficient power in ambient indoor lighting to charge and sustain low-power electronics.
Business Model & Competitive Advantage
In 2025, Exeger received substantial public and private funding: the Swedish Energy Agency granted SEK 130 million (approximately $12 million) to develop and industrialize next-generation indoor solar cell technology, and the company secured SEK 160 million in directed share issues and guarantees in the second half of 2025, followed by a SEK 110 million rights issue planned for December 2025. Earlier, the European Investment Bank provided a €35 million loan under the InvestEU program in 2023 to scale Powerfoyle production. Exeger''s primary commercial application is self-powered consumer electronics — headphones, smartwatches, hearing aids, and other wearables that integrate Powerfoyle into their surfaces to replace or extend disposable battery life.
Competitive Landscape 2025–2026
Commercial partners using Powerfoyle include Sony and URBANEARS. The self-powered electronics market is driven by consumer demand to eliminate charging friction and regulatory pressure to reduce battery waste and hazardous material disposal. Exeger is ramping industrialized production at its Stockholm facility and expanding internationally to serve OEM design-in requirements across the consumer electronics and IoT sectors.
