Ecommerce Sellers Face 5.9% FedEx and DHL Rate Increases in 2027 FedEx and DHL Express have both announced average US shipping rate increases of 5.9% for 2027, adding another cost consideration for ecommerce sellers planning their fulfillment strategies for the year ahead. DHL Express has said it will introduce a 5.9% general average shipment price adjustment for US account holders on January 1, 2027. A limited number of services and surcharges will also be adjusted. FedEx will follow on January 4, stating that it will increase standard list rates for US, US export, and US import package services by an average of 5.9%. The carrier is also changing certain surcharges, fees, minimum package rates, and Delivery Area and Pickup Area Surcharge ZIP code lists. Earlier Seasonal Shopping Means Ecommerce Sellers Need to Prepare Sooner Consumers are starting seasonal shopping earlier, giving ecommerce sellers another reason to rethink when they prepare inventory and fulfillment operations. According to National Retail Federation (NRF) research , 49% of consumers began shopping for Halloween before October last year, compared with 34% a decade earlier. By early August 2026, one-quarter of consumers had already purchased at least one Halloween item. The shift comes as shoppers remain conscious of economic pressures. NRF found that 54% of consumers said inflation was negatively affecting their view of the economy, while 40% cited tariffs. Over the previous six months, 43% said they were focusing more on needs than wants, and 40% reported becoming more practical with purchases. USPS Plans 2026 Holiday Price Increases: What Ecommerce Sellers Should Know The United States Postal Service (USPS)  plans  to temporarily increase prices for several package services during the 2026 holiday shipping season. The changes are intended to help cover additional handling costs during peak demand. Pending favorable review by the Postal Regulatory Commission, the increases would apply from  October 4, 2026, through January 17, 2027 . Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select would be affected, while other USPS products and services would remain unchanged. For ecommerce sellers, the impact will depend on package weight, shipping zone, and service. Commercial USPS Ground Advantage increases, for example, range from $0.40 for packages up to three pounds shipped within Zones 1-4 to $7.70 for packages weighing 26-70 pounds or oversized shipments to Zones 5-9.
