Company Overview
About Arduino
Arduino is an Italian open-source electronics platform providing microcontroller development boards, the Arduino IDE programming environment, and a vast ecosystem of compatible shields, sensors, and libraries — enabling hobbyists, students, educators, engineers, and professional developers to prototype and build interactive electronic projects and IoT devices without deep embedded systems expertise. Founded in 2005 at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Italy, Arduino built the most widely used prototyping platform in electronics education and maker culture, generating $42-49 million in revenue in 2024 from hardware sales, cloud services, and enterprise IoT solutions through arduino.cc. Qualcomm acquired Arduino in October 2025, integrating it into Qualcomm's IoT ecosystem.
Business Model & Competitive Advantage
Arduino's ecosystem impact is generational: the platform taught an estimated 30+ million people to program electronics, from elementary school robotics to university engineering courses to professional rapid prototyping. The open-source hardware model — publishing schematic files and allowing third-party compatible boards — built a massive compatible ecosystem that drove Arduino IDE and software library adoption even when users buy competing hardware. The Arduino Cloud platform (cloud-based IDE, remote device management, IoT dashboard) extends the ecosystem to connected devices.
Competitive Landscape 2025–2026
In 2025, Arduino under Qualcomm's ownership competes in the IoT development platform and microcontroller market with Raspberry Pi Foundation, STMicroelectronics (STM32 Nucleo boards), Espressif (ESP32, popular for low-cost WiFi IoT), and SparkFun for electronics prototyping and education. The Arduino Compatible Market is estimated at $815 million in 2025, growing at 10% CAGR. Qualcomm's acquisition provides access to Qualcomm's cellular IoT chipsets and industrial IoT partnerships, potentially bridging Arduino's maker/education positioning with industrial IoT deployment scale. The 2025 strategy under Qualcomm focuses on the Arduino Cloud enterprise tier, Qualcomm hardware integration in professional IoT products, and maintaining the open-source community that drives platform adoption.

The industrial world runs behind everyone else, technologically speaking. Reliability, safety, and maintenance are the biggest concerns, which means tried-and-true control solutions reign supreme. Even new facilities are full of machines that rely on tech that is several decades old. We’re thrilled to announce Arduino App Lab 0.10, our biggest release yet. With this update, you can now build applications alongside an AI agent that actively works on your project, not one that just answers questions about it. Powered by MCP and integrated with App CLI, Agentic Mode understands your workspace, creates and edits files, […] The post Arduino App Lab 0.10: Meet Agentic Mode appeared first on Arduino Blog .

Arduino® Project Hub has featured a lot of DIY handheld consoles on this blog over the years. Most of them are impressive, and most of them require at least some custom hardware – a purpose-designed PCB, a specialized connector, a part you can only get from one supplier. They’re great projects, but they can feel […] The post Build your own handheld retro console with the Arduino® UNO™ Q board appeared first on Arduino Blog .
Pen plotters are kind of neat, if you like the idea of marking paper without resorting to printing. But almost every pen plotter out there is basically the same: Cartesian movement in two axes, with some sort of actuation in Z to lift the pen. This DIY pen plotter built by András Vujovits is different […] The post This DIY pen plotter has delta kinematics and a tool changer appeared first on Arduino Blog .

We are thrilled to announce the release of version 0.90.0 of the ArduinoCore-zephyr. This is a major milestone: we are officially exiting the beta phase and marking the core as stable. Achieving this goal is the culmination of months of testing, architectural refinement, and community feedback. As we establish this core as our primary framework […] The post Arduino Core on Zephyr 0.90.0 is officially stable and leaving beta appeared first on Arduino Blog .
Sometimes, the most exciting projects we come across don’t come from well-funded labs or established companies – but rather from teenagers in a workshop, figuring things out because they genuinely want to solve something real. That’s exactly the energy behind Yadro Team – an eight-member robotics group based in Uzbekistan, most of them under 20, […] The post Meet Yadro Team: young robotics inventors from Uzbekistan, building tech that matters appeared first on Arduino Blog .
